The 12 V low voltage cutoff automatically isolates the 12 V battery when its voltage drops, to protect it from further discharge, but leaves enough charge for the vehicle to start again. It works with an input voltage of 8-20 V and a rated current of 50 A.
The 12 V low voltage cutoff is a device that automatically isolates the 12 V battery when its voltage drops, to protect it from further discharge. The input voltage range is 8-20 V and the rated current is 50 A.
Many electric vehicle manufacturers use a smaller auxiliary battery, often lithium, for the 12 V system; it discharges faster if the vehicle is left unattended, which can damage the cells. The device automatically isolates the 12 V battery at low voltage, leaving enough charge to restart the vehicle. Consumption during monitoring is low, and after tripping the device disconnects its own supply and draws zero current.
A built-in LED shows whether the 12 V battery is enabled or disabled. The reset input reactivates the battery for 10 seconds when pressed, enough to start the vehicle. The device connects to the positive battery cable, usually with 6 mm ring terminals (included); M3 terminals are provided for the low-power ground and reset wires (via a momentary switch to ground).
Due to the unidirectional nature of the switch, the device can only block the discharge current; the charging current is not stopped, even if the low voltage threshold has tripped.
